Receiving the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) Bronze Key Award at the McShin Foundation’s 9th Annual Spring Awards Banquet was such a tremendous honor. The bronze key is a national award presented on behalf of NCADD at the affiliate level and is the highest award that can be given by an Affiliate.
I am truly flattered to have received this award – and even more touching is that John Shinholser and the McShin Foundation awarded it to me. It was John, years ago, who introduced me to the field of recovery and addiction! It was wonderful to also be joined at the banquet by my family, husband, Sheriff Woody, fellow Kingdom Life Ministries (KLM) board members, and KLM alumni.
The McShin Foundation, serving thousands of people annually, is the hallmark of what recovery programs should look like. McShin provides services that are on the cutting edge of the recovery movement. By utilizing the peer-based model for recovery, they follow documented evidence-based practices. I have admired the McShin Foundation and the work of John Shinholser and his wife Carol McDaid for years! It therefore, is an absolute honor to receive this award from such a reputable and well-established organization that is among the top leaders of the recovery movement in Virginia.
